OVERVIEW

Framed reprint of The Wall Street Journal's coverage of the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing above 1000 for the first time on Nov. 14, 1972.

The Wall Street Journal reported that day that "the close produced cheers and confetti on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange and set champagne corks popping in brokerage offices across the country." But even then the Journal was quick to point out that the Dow was being criticized as less complete than the S&P (then 425 stocks) however it was "the most widely followed of the dozen or so popular stock market barometers."
